As he approaches his sixth anniversary as manager, Mikel Arteta has stated plainly that his continued role with the club is inextricably linked to delivering trophies.

Reflecting on: From Appointment to Present

The Spanish coach assumed control on the 20th of December in 2019 and promptly led the team to an cup win within months. Yet, that initial silverware remains his only top-tier trophy following the departure of Unai Emery.

“Absolutely,” he stated upon being asked about his future past 2027. “However, it is about today. And numerous factors have to happen in the near future as well to deserve that opportunity.”

Saturday night brings the landmark with a fixture against Everton, the exact opponent Arsenal met the day after his appointment was announced.

League Position and Pressure

Given that chasing Manchester City taking on West Ham in an earlier kick-off, Arsenal face being knocked off first place in the Premier League prior to their fixture. Injury Concerns

The squad approaches the weekend fixture coping with an additional absence. Defender Ben White has been ruled out with a strain that is expected to sideline him for a few weeks.

Confidence in the Path

Even with the injury crisis and the high-stakes environment, Arteta is confident the club's “objectives and communication” are completely changed from when he first arrived.

Arteta highlighted the team's performances as a sign they are nearing their goal. “Examine the performances, all the historical marks we surpassed... We still haven't been able to do that [win trophies]. But that indicates the standard we operate at.”

He finished by saying, “This is a standard that the Premier League has not seen before in the past. And we want to achieve even higher goals. And if we do that, I think we are on the correct trajectory to winning.”
