Brian Eno Calls On Backing to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Festive Top Spot.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort aims to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a chance to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Featured Artists
The single was laid down after a solidarity show held in September. First conceived to be done as a live recording, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of musicians appearing on Lullaby features a selection of acclaimed names from the industry. All took part in the benefit event, which successfully generated a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of talented individuals. The track blends a combination of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The group managing the project have emphasized that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These resources will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a figure said. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”
The context in the territory was described as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of property described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“Against that backdrop, a few million is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is first of all making this cause better known and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The song is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
