The EU could “act quickly and firmly” against what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the US on five European individuals working on fighting online hate and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans were placed on figures who have been central to campaigns to enact legislation governing US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have led organised efforts to coerce American platforms to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated a senior US official online. “This government will not stand for such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
