Fans Demand Arrest of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of Ariana Grande are demanding that a person who leaped a fence and touched the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating footage depicts the Australian man pushing past camera operators and charging at Grande while the cast made its way down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though court documents revealed that he was set to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram account contains clips of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last year.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user remarked.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous fans blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented a further message on Instagram.
A number of fans also faulted guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while some called for online networks to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande looked surprised when she was grabbed by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Numerous of supporters had gathered in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The film, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-film interpretation of the popular stage production Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected bond between two very different sorceresses.
The production itself is a adaptation of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a rosé glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of 2024 in the UK, and received ten Academy Award nods, winning two for best costume and set decoration.
