Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a significant and continuing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is not yet known and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," it added.

The statement noted wreckage fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
