Jurgen Klopp admits coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.

Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell featuring continental glory and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, currently occupies positions overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.

Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

The club claimed the Premier League last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I will never coach another team on English soil. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”

“Being 58, so the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Questioned regarding the specific conditions would have to unfold to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; I avoid standing under bad weather through long matches; I don’t miss going to press conferences four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats a week.

“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, however, dining out with the players having a nice chat, I appreciate that. With many victories meaning regularly a very good mood in the building. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”

Praise for His Successor

He commended regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest following significant transfers, but he rubbished the suggestion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, things will improve.”

Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward

He shared movingly on the loss of the Portuguese star, a player he signed while in charge, along with the consequences for the team. The Portugal international was killed in a vehicle collision together with his sibling recently.

“Can you substitute a person like him? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it's his character. I can’t imagine the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A devastating blow for the entire squad too. Not a single person might employ it for poor performances but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this on a personal level is difficult. Unbearable.”
