Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-part season written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The last season concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only arrived this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
