New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD issued video stills Monday of a suspect in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims were reported.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse just had a newborn.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was projected as a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he attends every game. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
