The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
