Triple award winner Nikola Jokic suffers a 'heartbreaking' knee injury.
Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets lost 147-123 at the Heat.
Jokic sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half following an unintentional contact with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
His teammate landed on the foot of the big man, and he immediately went down to the ground holding his knee.
The veteran player, that is leading the league season in rebounds and assists, had 21 points and eight dimes in the game prior to suffering the injury.
The player will undergo an scan on the following day to determine the severity of the injury.
"Right away, Jokic realized he was hurt," said Nuggets head coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Any player who suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, particularly somebody as important as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We will continue together. Obviously, currently, I am more worried about him personally and the frustration of experiencing a situation like that."
