Vince Gilligan Shares He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... Currently.
The creative mastermind could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”
With the first season of the hit program reaching its finale—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.
Regarding the Incredible Viewer Reception
It would be easy to get distracted by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. The creator is striving to steer clear of all that.
“It feels like force fed hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”
In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.
“We don't try to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by online forums.”
“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.
A Pressing Query: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Finale of Pluribus?
Considering the creative staff aren't taking cues by fan response, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… sort of.
“There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to discard a solid concept for a superior concept. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.
“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”
Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?
“I want Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.
Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
